Are you looking for a place where you can relax, enjoy nature with easy activities and experience the authentic archipelago life? Then read further...

When I first time came to Houtskär, I found a place where the pace of life naturally slows down. Nestled far away in the archipelago, Houtskärs untouched nature offers a tranquil retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. As I wandered through the forests, the only sound I heard was the rustling leaves underfoot, the distant call of a sea eagle, and the soft whisper of the wind.

One of my favourite activities is kayaking through the serene waters at dawn. It’s a magical experience that brings you closer to nature, and I can warmly recommend it. For those who prefer to stay on land, walking the roads and trails provides breathtaking views of the archipelago nature. If you’re lucky, you might spot a deer watching you curiously from the woods or fields.

If you’re looking for a place where your heart rate lowers, and your breathing aligns with the gentle flow of the wind, then Houtskär is a sanctuary waiting for you.

Kayaking and SUP boarding

Adventures kayaking around Hyppeis mirror the serene beauty of the local archipelago's waters. Each stroke with the paddle takes you closer to new wonders, from small islands to hidden coves. Paddling quietly along the shore line you'll meet just watching you from the distance with curiosity.

If you don’t want to go kayaking, try stand-up paddleboarding! It offers a unique vantage point to appreciate the quiet beauty of the island, a peaceful experience that connected me deeply with the natural world. From the paddle board you'll be able to get a good look at the boat houses in Hyppeis village. And paddle boarding is easier than you think!

Walking and biking

Inspired by the beautiful surroundings around the village Hyppeis, you can walk along the small roads or take a hike to the forest. Each walk is a journey through authentic landscapes, where the silence is only broken by the rustle of leaves, the distant crash of waves or the local farmers driving his tractor. The air is so clean, that you can spot beard moss on the trees!

Riding the bike allows you to see more. You can bicycle from one island to another, exploring the small villages. Or maybe you want to visit the Näsby village, which is about seven kilometres distance from the hotel. Ride your bike through the scenic road with beautiful red wooden houses, visit the Boat museum, church and the guest harbour. The ride offers you a glimpse into the archipelago lifestyle that has remained unchanged for generations.

Climbing to the Borgberg sightseeing tower

The climb to the Borgberg sightseeing tower is a journey, as reaching the top, you’ll be greeted by a breathtaking view that captured the essence of the archipelago's splendor—a mosaic of land and sea, harmoniously intertwined. Borgberg is only two kilometres away from the Hotel, so an ideal walk before or after breakfast.
